I spent my first high school year at Lagoon secondary school; an all-girls, catholic high school in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria.
At that time, we had a ‘virtue of the week’ each week and for my very first week, the virtue was ‘orderliness’. Beyond just stating a virtue, a clear theme was often defined. The theme for orderliness was “a place for everything and everything in its place”. I was only 10 years old in my first high school year but this statement made so much sense to me that it governs me even today.
Think about it, if you assign a defined space to everything in your room and you ensure that everything stays in its assigned position, you’ll hardly have to search for your stuff.
Now, we’re going to recreate this theme in the context of our time. Simply put, what if we assign a definite time to every task or activity we have to carry out in a day and ensure that each activity is done in its own time?
I shared my daily routine with a friend some weeks ago & he was amazed! Frankly, I too was shocked because although I never put it down in a note, I just realized I had somehow created a very functional routine that enabled me to fit in all my work tasks, university tasks, personal goals, & of course, great sleep into a 24-hour daily schedule (P.S: working from home also helps).
The moment you fix a definite time for every important task, it becomes easier to commit to it rather than constantly weighing options and replacing priorities based on impulse. So maybe, just maybe the only reason why you’re still procrastinating is that you have no schedule, no assigned ‘space’ for the task.
Do you already have a routine? Do you plan to start one? Why or why not?
Please let me know in the comment section.
P.S: I made this article short enough to give you some extra time to create your schedule today. You’re welcome 🙂
This is one aspect of my life where I “sin heavily.”…lol… One moment I am making the decision to have a plan, and the next moment I’m doing things at impulse. Your article strikes the cord of truth, I’d try to “be a good boy.”
Haha
I’m glad the article hit you. And yess please try to be a „good boy“, way to go!
Was just thinking about this yesterday. How can one be disciplined enough to churn out the kind of work that Beyoncé does? Routine, planning, habit forming… I haven’t really nailed what to do actually and how to be consistent with the process.
Lool, you that is my role model oh?
Actually I get this but just take each day at a time & be deliberate about making it work.
You absolutely just wrote out what I was thinking today. I always start one, but I’m never consistent with it. This is definitely a sign to continue with the one I started today.
Thanks!!
Consistency is key. You’re most welcome, Sissy!
Planning and to-do lists are definitely magical!
I need to be more disciplined with actually making mine tho
Yess girl! Trust me, they really work!
