I turned 25 today. For the first time in a long time, I was able to have an actual “birthday reflection”. My last two birthdays were right before one university exam or the other so I didn’t get the chance to think about anything else. But this time, I’m relatively free. There are a bunch of things I’ve learned in the past couple of years, especially in the last one year but I’ll try to keep it down to these:
1. Be content, not comfortable. Simply put, be satisfied enough with where you are to be able to appreciate your progress but don’t sink too deep into your comfort zone so much so that your growth becomes stagnant or even begins to decline. Oh and that comparison thing? Do away with it, please. You’ll just end up letting your food get cold while watching someone else’s plate.
2. Enjoy the season and stop always striving for the next big thing. Time flies, you know. It doesn’t make any sense to spend all of it seeking what’s next. Count today’s blessings but don’t just stop there. Take a moment (or a while) to really enjoy them because you won’t get today ever again.
3. Choose your circle and don’t let it choose you. Unlike most people, I don’t even have a circle; just a few dots. Like it or not, these people largely influence your thought processes and „challenge” you to become a much better or worse version of yourself. Surely you won’t want to find yourself in a random circle just because they live next door.
4. Find love: Not the kind you have to sell your body and soul for, no. The kind that gives more than it takes. If you, like me, have ever searched for the true meaning of love, it’s written word for word in the Bible (1 Corinthians 13: 4-11). Any kind of love that does not tick all the boxes there my friend, is not the one God designed for you.
That’s it fam. What about you? What have you learnt in the last year? Btw are you really not going to wish me a happy birthday in the comment section?
Happy birthday to you! Thoughtful reflections.
Lovely as always
